theme or lesson for the book HOOT by Carl Hiaasen?

ok so i have a reading project for HOOT tomorrow. i am pretty much stuck with not knowing the lesson or theme of the book.
So plz help me out.
whats the theme and/or lesson?
I believe the theme of the book is that sometimes doing the right thing is difficult especially for teenagers when the right thing "isn't cool". The big example for the theme is all the trouble he goes through to help save the owls.
